Interview with Vogg by Lady Enslain
Enslain: How are you? It’s been a while!
Vogg: Still drunk from yesterday! But ok, very cool! First show, in Lithuania, very cool!
Enslain: So today you’re in Latvia… how’s the tour been so far?
Vogg: Today is the second show, so, you know, I can’t tell too much, but it seems to be that the tour will be killer! All the bands know each other since many many years. It’s like a vacation with friends, seems that we will have a really cool time! I’m excited about Vader and Decapitated, it’s really cool that this happened, finally!
Enslain: Are you excited about coming to Finland for the first time?
Vogg: Yeah, yeah! That’s one of the best things about this tour! I don’t know how it happened, but we’ve never played in Finland before, which is actually from one side really cool, so I don’t know what to expect, but I think it will be killer! I know lots of people, the guys from Children of Bodom, from Medeia, Rotten Sound, I know some of them will come to see us, and… I’m very excited… after 20 years of Decapitated, we will play Helsinki, Finland, that’s awesome as fuck!
Enslain: Coincidentally, the last time you’ve been here was also with Vader, in 2008, but that time you were filling in for them on guitar. How does it feel to now be co-headlining instead?
Vogg: Great! About this tour, and this lineup, it’s all great, I feel awesome about that!
Enslain: I guess you’d say that Vader is a really important band for you.
Vogg: That’s right, yeah, Vader was a huge influence for creating music, especially for the first album. I think when I create riffs these days, there is also this influence going on somewhere all the time. Vader is one of my best bands ever, I listened to Vader a lot growing up, together with bands like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, all the 90’s death metal bands, together with all the thrash metal bands from Bay Area, also lots of Polish bands… but Vader was one of the main influences, that’s for sure.
Enslain: Do you think you may have had any influence on Vader’s music?
Vogg: I don’t know, I don’t know! I can ask Peter, but it would be not cool to ask him about that! I don’t know, I don’t hear it, I never hear it in Vader’s music. Probably if that would be right, it would be like Vader inspired Vader!
Enslain: What are your expectations from Finland and playing for these audiences for the first time!
Vogg: My expectation is, I think we go there, we come to the venue, we set up the stage, and we will have a great show! I hope that lots of people will come to see Vader and Decapitated! If someone is a Decapitated fan from Finland, it will be cool to see Decapitated for the first time ever, since band has had 20 years already. I expect really cool times, and I expect people will have a good time too!
Enslain: What thoughts come to mind when you think of Finland?
Vogg: Blue and white flag with a cross… Vodka… Impaled Nazarene… They win with Russia as the only one country in the Second World War, you know, Russia attacked Finland and Finland won. I know that the education is the highest level in Europe. What else. Finntroll? Haha, I know that they rehearse in the same place, and I already talked with the drummer, and we go to see them playing at rehearsal and they come to the show!
Enslain: Do you know any words in Finnish?
Vogg: Ummm, perkele! Is that Finnish? I don’t even know what does it mean! Something wrong, for sure! There’s a few words I knew from the Impaled Nazarene albums, I can’t remember now!
Enslain: So what Polish words would you like to teach us Finnish people that we can yell to you from the audience?
Vogg: ahhhh, Chrissy, your questions! Haha! Well, of course kurwa, that’s the main one, especially when you teach people on the party… kurwa mać is like fuck and stuff like that… ok, what else… piwo, is a beer… metal is metal… maybe Poproszę piwo, I’d like to buy a beer!
Enslain: Cool! Let’s continue this more in depth at the venue on Sunday!
Vogg: If I can say something to finish this, I’ve said it before, but I’m truly excited to go to Finland first time to play with Decapitated, it’s weird that we never played there before, it’s close to Poland, and a European country, but it’s a really cool thing that we’ve never played there, because it’s cool to do something for the first time ever, so there will be some kind of new experience to visit Finland. I’m very happy about that. To see some of my old friends. Like you, for example!
